Install arch dual boot Make space for Arch The only problem i've ever faced is that my battery degrades very quickly. ⚠️Batterry Issue: I'v used arch and artix for couple year on my MBP, everything is fine, smooth, but there is a problem, because OSX is apple stuff, so they make it very well, when using linux on Macbook, you must accept the risk. It's seem Macbook with T2 Security isn't support linux very well, view this discussions
ARCH LINUX MACBOOK PRO UPDATE
I’ll probably update this as I make changes. Phil Plckthun’s blog post on the same topic. (All the Arch Linux wiki pages are invaluable) Loc Pefferkorn’s very thorough blog post on setting up Arch Linux with encryption. I’ve left off the stuff that’s quite obvious for me to install straight away like a web browser, editor ( Sublime Text), and things like that. I relied on three other Arch-on-MacBook guides to help me through the process: The MacBook and MacBookPro11,x Arch Linux wiki pages. First I tried booting the regular ArchLinux installation CD (the core version, for 圆4), but it would never finish booting, so I tried with Archboot.

So next time I setup Arch I’ll have a good list of packages for my base system. Hi I'm trying to install Arch Linux on a Macbook Pro (mid 2010), and having a couple of issues. It’s a roll-your-own OS like Gentoo with rolling releases and an enthusiastic community the value of which should never be underestimated.Īfter having Arch Linux setup for some weeks, I’ve compiled a list of packages that I had installed and why. But for a new install I wasn’t interested in Gentoo, as compiling everything from source is just a waste of time. I don’t like bloat, so Gentoo was perfect. The other factor I valued is that your system would only have software you asked for and nothing else. RetroArch is a frontend for emulators, game engines and media players.
So if something goes wrong, you know how to help yourself through it and you learn a lot along the way. Gentoo was a great distro for get started with Linux since you had no choice but to learn how the whole system is put together. I hadn’t used Linux on the desktop since Gentoo back on my Dell Latitude D400. See the releases (those not marked as a pre-release) of aunali1/linux-mbp-arch for ones that have been tested. Warnings Some kernel versions, notably 5.8.x and 5.9.x are known to have issues. A list of those devices can be found on Apple's website. So I wiped it all out and installed Arch Linux. This wiki contains knowledge about running Linux on Macs with the T2 chip. The problem is I just didn’t enjoy using Windows, it was sluggish at times, and I was spending all my time in WSL anyway. I have to say, Microsoft did a truly impressive job there making that work.
ARCH LINUX MACBOOK PRO WINDOWS 10
I installed Windows 10 and Windows Subsystem for Linux. At this point, booting the macbook with the USB drive plugged in and the option key pressed shows the bootloader menu with the option to select the EFI Arch Linux bootloader. Is it twice as good for what I’ll be doing? Highly doubt it. This results in a working console-based system, and although there’s much configuration to be done next, the rest is much more subjective. For example, the i7-8700K is twice the price as an i5-8400. So I built a modest system, trying not to go beyond the point of diminishing returns for components.
I’ll skip the part where I fall out of love with MacBooks and sell my 2017 MacBook Pro.Īfter watching so many YouTube videos about PC builds, and wanting to do some PC gaming, I had to build one. I hadn’t built a PC in over ten years ever since I got a MacBook Pro that could do everything I needed for both work and personal use.
This past summer I treated myself to building a new PC.
